World Day of Puppetry 2019

Saturday March 23, 2019

The Puppetry Guild of Northeastern Ohio is proud to present "World Day of Puppetry 2019 Cleveland".

The grand event will take place on Saturday March 23, 2019 at Cleveland Public Library - Main Branch - 325 Superior Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44114, and will feature a variety of puppet related performances and activities.

Included in the day's events will be walk-around puppet performances, puppet building workshops for children and families, a "puppet store" where visitors can purchase their own puppets, and staged performances by local and regional professional puppet performers.

The main highlight of the day will be the ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of Cleveland Public Library's 150th. Anniversary Exhibit "The World of Puppets: From Stage to Screen".

The exhibit will run from March 23 – November 30, 2019

The Cleveland Public Library will host The World of Puppets: From Stage to Screen, an exhibit featuring over 100 puppets from around the world, including popular characters from theater, film and television such as Oscar the Grouch (Sesame Workshop), Audrey II (Little Shop of Horrors) and Nutso and Shirley Squirrely from Cleveland's own Hickory Hideout. The exhibit celebrates Cleveland Public Library's 150th anniversary, actively reflecting its history of services to children and its longstanding mission to bring public art and performance to a wide range of library visitors. The Library will present a full program of related activities, including performances by guest artists throughout the year as the library expands the scope and accessibility of the puppetry arts in Northeast Ohio, integrating them into our programming, outreach, and educational offerings.

Located in Brett Hall, the grand focal point of the Cleveland Public Library's historic Main Library building, the exhibit will open on Saturday, March 23. Opening day activities, presented in partnership with the Puppeteers Guild of Northeastern Ohio and held in conjunction with World Day of Puppetry, will include:

puppet performances by local and regional puppet performers
workshops for families and children
roving puppeteers and a Sesame Street costumed character
